Missions Fest™ is an annual global missions conference planned and organized exclusively by local churches of different denominations. These churches pool their resources and the people within their churches voluntarily work together. The goals of Missions Fest™ are three-fold:
i. to provide information about the needs (physical, spiritual) around the world and the opportunities to serve,
ii. to celebrate what God is doing through His people around the world, and
iii. to challenge people of all ages to get involved in the Great Commission by going, sending, praying, and giving.
Missions Fest™ began in Vancouver, Canada in 1984 and has continued ever since. It has also spread to other cities across Canada and has also begun to take place in the USA.
More recently, African leaders have expressed an interest in holding Missions Fest™ in significant cities throughout continental Africa. Part of the incentive has come from alumni who have taken training at the Missions Exposure & Training (MET) centre in Pretoria and now encourage local leaders to hold events that raise awareness of the needs and opportunities to serve around the world.
Gerald Golbeck, who gives leadership to MET and has visited Missions Fest Vancouver many times, is willing to represent Missions Fest as a Special Envoy in Africa and channel information to cities who would be interested in exploring a working relationship with Missions Fest.
Gerald is currently working with the organizers of Missions Fest Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo to assist in gathering information from mission organizations and seminar presenters for this conference scheduled to take place on November 28 to December 2, 2006. He may be reached by email: golbeck@mweb.co.za or telephone 27-83-525-3711.
